He started primary school part time in September, and full time after xmas.
He has struggled with learning his Phonics ever since he started school.
He has no problem in recognising the phonics, but cannot grasp how to write them.

I have tried to make it fun for him, but am failing miserably.
He turned 5 last week, and cannot even write his name.
oops, i meant how can i MAKE learning phonics fun!

Here are some resources to try … I cannot promise anything.

Just a note, despite what we are told learning is based on developmental stages not age. Some students are not ready to learn certain concepts until another time but they will get there as they develop. We, as a society, tend to try to force everyone into the same mold and for some students the fit is not the proper one.

Research, often overlooked, shows that students who begin to read at age nine and in six months reading at a post-high school level. The same research shows that when children are forced to learn to read at young ages they do not always develop the skills needed. In simple words, the developmental stages are overlooked and we are placing all children in the same mold.

Advice: Let him work at his speed, do not force him, but work with him and he will eventually learn in his time.

    Hope this helps …

It may not be the phonics. He may be uncomfortable writing (most kids LOVE writing even the first letter of their name by the age of 3). Or there may be something else…Have his fine motor skills been checked? He may not write because there’s something wrong with his fine motor skills. Or he may even have a developmental delay.
