My husband has yet to get on-board with homeschooling… I have been trying to show him by doing home-summer-school, to show him I can handle it and how much our son enjoys learning with me as the teacher…
Anyway, I am looking for good Christian/character building book suggestions that a second grader (going into second) can read on his own as part of our summer reading program.
Activity and field trip suggestions welcome too!
Thanks

Abeka has some good Christian books. You can purchase them from the Abeka book website or find them on ebay. You can also look up 2nd grade reading lists on the internet.
Check around for local free programs such as nature programs at the park or programs held at museums. Colleges often have programs for school age children (our local college has a free “Chemistry for Kids” every fall).
Watch your newspaper for local happenings in your area.
Your church and scouting programs also have many good youth activities.
Have you looked at Sonlight? They list all of the books that they use for each core and a lot of them you can find at the library. That is where my son’s reading list comes from. The books are so good. You can find them at http://www.sonlight.com
Have you looked into finding a home school group in your area? If you are having trouble finding one then I would suggest going to the library on story day and talking to a few of the parents there. When we go in field trips its with a home school group.
